Cabo San Lucas Portrait Photography // Lover’s Beach // Steph & Matt

Two days after Stephanie & Matt tied the knot in sunny Cabo San Lucas, we went to Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor) for a portrait session. Lover’s Beach is at the tip of the cape of Cabo San Lucas, where the sea of Cortez and the Pacific ocean meet and is surrounded by towering rock formations. I guess you could call this session “Trash the Dress”, except it wasn’t really. Just us hanging out, and playing tag with the ocean waves. Well, sort of. Don’t try this one at home kids! The waves and ocean current along the Pacific side are incredibly strong and dangerous. Even on the sea of Cortez side, the boats can’t really dock at all, we had to jump off to get here and on the way back, had to hoist (or throw) ourselves back into the boat. It was a pretty crazy adventure.

San Francisco Engagement Photography // Ilana & Josh

Ilana and I used to work together :) As I write this, it’s starting to sound really familiar. I have photographed a lot of people who I used to work with, I think that just goes to say that I worked with a lot of great people.

Back to Ilana and Josh. They moved to San Francisco at the end of last year and decided to get married. Ilana heard I was traveling to California in May so she got in touch about a photo session, and of course I was thrilled about shooting in San Fran.

We decided to go to the Marin Headlands and Baker beach in the Golden Gate Bridge area because of the natural beauty of the surroundings. On the day of though, the fogs had their own plan. It was windy and chilly but we made the best of our time together.

San Fran was a special city and I’d love to return again some day. Here are some of my favourites from Ilana & Josh’s Document Love session.

Document Love: Stephanie & Matt // Toronto Engagement Photography

Meet Stephanie and Matt. Stephanie loves Matt’s laugh. Matt still finds her to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen.

They’ve known each other since high school and 11 years later, still deeply in love, and getting married soon in sunny Cabo San Lucas.

A lot of the times we think that when two people finally find each other later in life, it’s that much more special. Not to say it isn’t necessarily. But I think it’s equally special when two people find each other early on in life but have stayed together. It’s not easy, being high school sweethearts. Not that it’s ever easy in any relationship per se, but there seems to be a little extra difficulty with young relationships because we are at a stage where we are still learning and growing so much, and changing so much. It’s incredibly easy to grow apart. These guys have stuck together, they’ve grown together, and I’m sure, will enjoy many more happy years together.

I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding next week.

Document Love: Martin & Amy // Hamilton Engagement Photography

A sense of humour and/or silliness is almost a prerequisite in my clients in order for us to work really well together. And Martin and Amy have plenty of both. They both have such a dry sense of humour, but that’s why they get each other. They also make each other laugh a lot, as you will see in the following photos from their Document Love session from the Fall. I think it’s super important that your other half gets your sense of humour because, can you imagine? You tell a joke or say something that you think is funny, and they just look at you with a blank face? No, I think life is too short not to have fun and laugh often, especially with someone you love.

Armina & Davið // Reykjavik Portrait Photographer

The day I met Armina & Davið for our session, Iceland was at its wintry, stormy best. Think gale force winds and snow whipping you in the face. Winter was definitely coming that day (excuse my lame Game of Thrones reference, been watching the show lately). Even though it was only cloudy in the morning, but as Armina later said, you cannot trust the weather when in Iceland. :)

We had plans to go to lake Kleifarvatn in the Reykjanes peninsula. By the time we got there, there was so much snow we could hardly see in front of the car and everywhere you looked there was nothing but the whiteness of the snow covered landscape. Then we got to a part on the secondary road where the snow drift was so high that cars could not drive through. At which point we drove back to the city and Davið officially apologized for the weather haha. That’s the thing, sometimes plans just don’t work out. How you work with what’s been given to you is what makes the difference.

We made the best of the rest of our time together and made a brief stop at the Saga Museum, where we stepped out onto the terrace briefly to capture the only outdoor photo from the day. Then we headed to Kex Hostel, where they have this incredible lounge, and is where Armina and Davið like to hang out after work sometimes.

Lilja & Jón // Reykjavik Engagement Photographer

Lilja and Jón are getting married in July in East Iceland (unfortunately I’m already booked that day, cry!) I met them on my trip to Iceland a few weeks ago and took some engagement photos for them in Reykjavik, where they live.

The theme for their wedding is nautical so the harbour was the place we went. They also brought along their sweet Labrador for part of the session.

We didn’t have a lot of time together because Jón had a bit of a work emergency that he had to deal with. However, we made the best of the time we did have together, and here are some of my favourites from their session. Enjoy!
