Here are some questions that clients/potential clients ask frequently. If you have a question and can’t find the answer below or would like to get in touch, please fill out the contact form and I will be in touch!

Q: What kind of camera do you use?

A: I shoot with Canon 5D Mark III, and I use primarily prime lenses. I also shoot with two camera bodies at once. That said, I have nothing against Nikon :)

Q: How many final images will we receive? Do we choose which final images we get?

A: When you hire your wedding photographer, you are entrusting him/her to tell the story of your day (that’s why it’s so important that your visions match) and so the final images will be chosen by the photographer. For a wedding day of 8 to 10 hours, on average my clients will receive between 350 – 550 final images. More if it was a full day. For a portrait session, you can expect between 40 – 60 final images. That said, these numbers are an approximation only. I believe in quality over quantity and I will provide you with as many photos as it takes to tell your story. Images that aren’t chosen by me won’t be released to my clients, as they won’t be edited. This is similar to musicians not releasing tracks that didn’t make the cut. :)

Q: Are the images we receive edited? And what kind of post processing do you do?

A: Certainly, all the images you receive will be edited by me. You will receive ready-to-print, high-resolution JPEG files. The post processing I do includes but is not limited to exposure, white balance, colour, contrast, and saturation. Fairly simple and nothing intensive, as I like to keep my photos looking natural. So for example, I won’t be editing out someone’s arm and I definitely can’t make anyone appear skinnier.

Q: What about black and white photos? Will we get any?

A: Yes there will be various black & white photos from your wedding day and they will be selected by me. For any black and white photo you receive, you will receive the colour version as well.

Q: Will the final images we receive have watermarks?

A: No the final images won’t have any watermarks on them. I understand some photographers may opt to do that, but it’s not something I do.

Q: When will we get our photos?

A: Within 4 – 6 weeks after your wedding. Or 2 – 3 weeks for a portrait session.

Q: Do you have back up gear?

A: Yes I do. I have a back up camera body, various lenses and lots of memory cards that I always bring to every wedding or portrait session.

Q: Do we have to have a second photographer at the wedding?

A: No you don’t have to! I offer solo coverage for smaller, more intimate weddings and I shoot continuously so I cover a lot of things even on my own. However, a second photographer can help provide a more complete narrative of your day if you have a wedding with more guests. He/she would photograph the groom’s prep while I photograph the bride’s prep (sometimes we photograph them together, in which case they’d provide a different perspective still). They would cover different angles during portrait time (or the cocktail hour), and more candids of guests’ reactions during the ceremony and reception. And generally catching things that I may miss because I’m not able to be in more than one place at a time (mind you I never miss any “big” moments of course!)

Q: What is the best way to inquire?

A: The best way to get in touch is by filling out my contact form or sending me an email. I promise to respond within 24 hours, but if you don’t hear back from me, check your junk mail folder! :)

Q: Do you work internationally?

A: Yes I do! I love to travel and am a big fan of destination weddings. Send me an email and we can chat.

Q: Do we have to do engagement photos?

A: No you don’t. Though an engagement session is a great way for the couple to get comfortable with me and great for us to get to know each other. They are also especially helpful for the camera shy folk.

That said, you should also know I do my engagement sessions a bit differently. I call them “Document Love” sessions. And it’s all about spending the time doing something that’s meaningful to you and photographing you in your element and documenting your love and shared connections.

Q: How do we book?

A: Send me an email at janice[at]janiceyiphotography.ca or fill out the contact form and we’ll go from there. To secure a date, I require a signed agreement and a deposit. I can’t hold any dates without those two things.

Q: Do you charge for travel?

A: My photography coverage includes travel for up to a 80km radius from where I’m based. There is a small charge for additional km’s. For out of province and destination weddings, send me an email and I can respond accordingly!

Q: Can I purchase a session as a gift?

A: Most definitely. Email me and we can work out the details.
