California Wine Country Wedding // Kim & Eric

Rustic California Ranch Wedding | Triple S Ranch, Calistoga

Last month I had the opportunity to photograph Kim & Eric’s beautiful and fun wedding at the Triple S Ranch in California wine country, just 1 hour north of Napa and Sonoma. It was a gorgeous day, the temperature was just right for an outdoor wedding and the sun was shining. Kim & Eric tied the knot under the hundred-year old walnut tree on the ranch, surrounded by their friends and family who came from all across the continent and as far as Europe. There was amazing food, awesome music (with their favourite local band The Soft White Sixties playing), great company and a whole lot of love.

Kim was born and raised in Toronto while Eric is from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. They had respectively moved to New York and San Fran before they met. All signs would have pointed to “no” but it was inevitable really. Their shared career in advertising brought them to L.A. one fateful day as Eric was shooting in L.A. and Kim was visiting friends doing a shoot. They totally hit it off and the rest was history.

Kim is so full of life and passion and her enthusiasm is so infectious. Eric is so warm and down to earth. They both share this goofiness and it’s so sweet.

Toronto Child Photographer // Isla

It’s not often that I photograph a child alone, though Isla’s mom was with us and did make appearances! Little Isla gets photographed once a year, around her birthday. I think it’s a great idea to create documentation of your little one’s childhood. They grow up so fast after all. I’ve always loved photographing children, not only because childhood is such a precious time but because they are so trusting. If you open your heart and show your true self, they do the same. As a photographer, that trust is something very precious that allows you to photograph something authentic and pure, something that can be hard to do with older subjects.

Mississauga Baby Photographer // Baby Audrey

I photographed Brittany and James’ rustic farm wedding back in 2014, and a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet and photograph the new addition to their family: baby Audrey.

There’s an undeniable feeling of joy and wonder in the air in their little family, and I felt so blessed to have been able to capture these. For these guys, home is Saturday morning in bed and your loved ones are by your side.

2nd Floor Events Wedding // Noor & Zain

Noor and Zain’s wedding at 2nd Floor Events was an intimate and fun event where they were able to talk to and mingle with everyone, and be fully present for the day. After the lunch reception and a bit of dancing, we then went to Spin next door for a few rounds of ping pong, how fun is that! Their wedding was just like them, warm and well-grounded.

Noor and Zain first met in their undergraduate studies at Queen’s university. They quickly became friends and kept in touch after graduation. Seven years later, Zain emailed Noor one day to see how she was doing, and one thing led to another, the rest was history. They are so comfortable and in sync with each other, and Zain always has a great smile when he is around Noor. It’s so sweet.

A quote that I really like from their ceremony: “Love organizes our vast and sometimes unpredictable world. It is that which preserves and ennobles our human experience”.

Orangeville Family Photographer // The Paans

When the leaves turned a beautiful colour in October, I had the opportunity to photograph the wonderful Paan family in Orangeville. They were referred to me by Tanya, whose lovely family I have photographed a couple of years ago.

“Home” has always been a fascinating concept to me. There is the saying that “home is where the heart is”, and amazingly (as it usually is with language), there is a similar saying in Chinese (and probably in other languages as well). It means different things to different people. Perhaps it’s a small but modern apartment in a metropolitan city; perhaps it’s a 50L backpack filled with only the essential things you need to survive and travelling the world; perhaps you only feel at home with your parents who you know will always love you unconditionally.

For the Paan’s, I think home is a full house in the country, with two furry friends in tow and space to roam & explore. Maybe because I’m an only child and most of my family have always been far away, but I always thought I wouldn’t necessarily want a big family. Then I met the Paan’s, and thought, “hey, this isn’t so bad”. I know what I saw was only a small slice of their life, and that there must be days that feel hard and challenging (but isn’t it like that with all families regardless of the size?) But still, seeing how happy, loving, and harmonious they are within their family, I couldn’t help but think that all the hard days must be so worth it.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club Wedding // Cecilia & Chi

Cecilia and Chi’s Royal Canadian Yacht Club wedding took place at the end of May. Normally by this time of the year, the weather would have already warmed up very nicely but on this day, not only did it rain, it felt more like fall rather than spring. However, nothing was going to dampen their wedding celebration. Too cold? No problem, the ceremony was moved indoors and it was still setup beautifully. The rain wouldn’t stop? No problem, we did additional portraits on another day. At the end of the day, it was still a celebration of love, friendship and family. At the end of the day, that’s the most important thing.
