la dolce vita

Just some favourite quotes to share on traveling :)

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard

“Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quiestest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey.” – Pat Conroy

Cuba

We took a trip to Cuba in January, though the weather wasn’t perfect, the trip was just what we needed – some rest and relaxation! We stayed at the Tyrp Cayo Coco, one of the 10 or so resorts on the island. Though the resort grounds were fine, I found the rooms themselves a bit dated.

Our first trip to Cuba was 2 years ago, and we went to the island Cayo Largo, which was exactly how we pictured a Caribbean island – warm turquoise water, shallow sandbanks that you can walk out seemingly forever, white sands, and the kind of clear and strong sunshine you only get in the Caribbean. Apparently Ernest Hemingway fell in love with Cayo Guillermo back in the 60s, on the northeast tip of Cayo Coco, I think he should have visited Cayo Largo as well ;)

Look up…

My CS5 trial version expired two weeks ago so I haven’t been editing any photos. But, I do have Lightroom 3 on my Mac so I just need to get on learning how to use it!

In the mean time, I’d like to share with you one of my favourite photos. It’s taken by Sam Javanrouh from Daily Dose of Imagery. One of my favourite photo bloggers.

Whenever I’m out shooting, I always forget the amazing views that are awaiting you if you just look up. This shot was taken in Sienna, Italy.

Dream a Little Dream of Me

I came across a video of the song on Youtube today by Zooey Deschanel (of 500 Days of Summer fame)

I immediately started humming along and realized I had heard the French version of the song many times before in the movie French Kiss. For some reason I always assumed that it is a French song. It just sounds very French to me :) I love it. I also love the movie.

Sunsets

Dusk and dawn are my favourite times of the day. Perhaps befittingly as these hours are referred to as “the golden hours” by photographers, mainly because the light is soft and warm. I love sunsets, they are different everyday and the colours are almost always dramatic.
